FAVARH’s Independence Academy is designed for older students and adults who have a desire to be more independent, to be more self confident, and to live a healthier adult lifestyle. The Academy does this through the development of Communication, Leadership, and Self Expression skills.
Our creative arts approach to independence skill building incorporates the themes of nutrition and fitness, community safety, and fun. Success is measured in the participant’s ability to 1) live more independently; 2) communicate more self confidently at work, in the community, and at home; and 3) to live a healthier life style on their own.
Each session is designed for one day each week from 3:30-6:00pm. Each six week session is different but is designed to reinforce the skills learned in previous or concurrent sessions. During some sessions, participant’s will transition through a series of three Stations. Each station incorporates various methods and themes to achieve the targeted outcomes. Other sessions have a single focus such as Culinary Arts, Relationship Skills or Visual Arts. Adult learning techniques and strategies are implemented by a passionate team of teaching professionals and reinforced by volunteers and fellow participants. Independence Academy helps people grow, succeed, and thrive as each person endeavors to achieve his or her personal best.
