FAVARH Unified Activities are inspired by Unified Sports which were adopted by Special Olympics Inc. in 1989 to expand opportunities for both “athletes” with intellectual disabilities and “partners” without intellectual disabilities. At FAVARH, we apply this same approach to give both “participants” and “partners” opportunities to explore new interests, make new friends, and more fully participate in the community. Unified Activities are activities made up of a roughly equal amount of participants and partners and can be applied to almost any group activity.

Unified activities have allowed FAVARH to provide meaningful and fun activities for not only our clients but also our volunteers and our staff who volunteer. People participate in activities that they enjoy. When people of varying abilities but similar interests come together, magical things happen. Friendships are born, leaders are cultivated, and the community is enhanced.
