Our mission is to help each person achieve his or her personal best. For many people that translates into having a place to live, having a job to earn money, and having an active and healthy personal life. The FAVARH VIP (Very Independent People) Program is a comprehensive approach to independent living that brings together the Three Pillars of Support including 1) Home supports, 2) Job supports, and 3) Personal Life supports.
Home supports take place in affordable apartment complexes in which FAVARH leases multiple units. Home supports include all of the independent life skill support and training that someone may need to live in this more independent setting. Combine this with FAVARH’s employment program that assists people in finding and maintaining employment along with the necessary transportation and you have two of the three pillars laying the foundation of this distinctive program.
“Having a job, transportation, and a place to live is great, but if you don’t have an active and healthy personal life, people are not going to be happy,” so says Tim Hennessey, Department Director. Tim has recently added Independence Academy to the array of recreation, creative arts, social, adult learning, and club activities offered by his staff and volunteers. These and other activities comprise our personal life supports pillar and round out the FAVARH VIP Program.
According to Christian Lawson (pictured on top-left-right), newly living on his own, “FAVARH helped me to find a roommate, they helped me find an apartment, and they helped me find a new job. I volunteer at the local fire department; I participate in the Inspirational Arts Program, the Cooking Program, and many other FAVARH activities. I have a very busy schedule. I love being on my own. THANK YOU FAVARH!”
